From March 5 to 18, 2024, Equidev, in partnership with the USAID-funded Feed the Future Tajikistan Agriculture and Land Governance Activity (ALG), achieved a significant milestone by distributing 6,000 chickens and 36 tons of chicken feed to 300 beneficiaries across six districts in the Khatlon region. This initiative aims to uplift vulnerable households in N. Khusrav, Shahritus, Qubodiyon, Dusti, J.Balkhi, and Jayhun districts, bolstering food security in the region.
In February, Equidev and ALG kicked off the project with information sessions in 20 villages, meticulously selecting 300 beneficiaries eager to embrace poultry farming. These individuals formed 20 family poultry production groups, each comprising 15 members, embarking on a journey toward self-sufficiency and economic empowerment.
Following this, Equidev’s veterinarians conducted comprehensive one-day training sessions on family poultry production for each group, imparting essential skills and knowledge. Simultaneously, beneficiaries actively contributed by constructing chicken coops, demonstrating their commitment to the project’s success and sustainability.
With each beneficiary household receiving 19 hens, one rooster, and 120 kg of chicken feed, this initiative lays the groundwork for improved nutrition and economic opportunities in the targeted districts. Equidev remains steadfast in its mission to empower vulnerable households and foster sustainable development in the region.
