June 25, 2024 – Equidev conducted an intensive one-day training on Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion in the Fayzobod district. Twenty health workers from Miskinobod’s Rural District Hospital and Health Center participated in the training, aimed at equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively tackle WASH challenges in their communities.
The interactive sessions included group work, discussions, presentations, and brainstorming activities. A significant portion of the training focused on practical demonstrations of the six steps of effective handwashing, emphasizing the importance of using soap, preventing waterborne diseases, using safe latrines, and understanding various water treatment methods.
Participants were also introduced to the concept of DEWATS and its ongoing construction, highlighting its importance in maintaining community health, reducing environmental pollution, and promoting sustainable wastewater management. For many health workers, DEWATS was a new concept, and they expressed optimism about its potential to improve local sanitation. A site visit to the DEWATS construction provided a firsthand look at its progress and potential impact on improving environmental sustainability.
This training and the DEWATS construction are integral components of the ongoing Building Knowledge and Awareness on Sustainable Sanitation Solutions project, funded by the Government of Switzerland.
