The second phase of the Family Poultry Production project, implemented by Equidev under the USAID-funded Feed the Future Tajikistan Agriculture and Land Governance Activity (ALG), successfully concluded in February 2025, further strengthening food security and economic resilience for 300 vulnerable households (295 women and 5 men) across Yovon, Jomi, Khuroson, Levakant, Kushoniyon, and Vakhsh districts in Khatlon.

Each household received 20 chickens (one rooster and 19 hens) and 120 kg of feed, along with comprehensive training in poultry management, disease prevention, and marketing. Trained veterinarians provided continuous support, ensuring beneficiaries had the necessary skills to manage their poultry farms effectively. A poultry health protection campaign and regular group meetings further helped families enhance productivity, address challenges, and adopt best practices.

By the end of the project, beneficiaries collectively produced 323,643 eggs, with 234,070 consumed, improving household nutrition, and 89,573 sold, generating 111,133 TJS in income. Many families have also started natural hatching, ensuring poultry production continues beyond the project’s duration.

Through targeted training, veterinary assistance, and strengthened market connections, Equidev has successfully enabled families to sustain and expand their poultry farming enterprises. The completion of this phase highlights how small-scale poultry farming can serve as a viable pathway to long-term food security and economic stability in rural Tajikistan.
